Spills happen. Whether it’s a splash of red wine, a muddy pawprint, or an accidental coffee tip-over, stains are part of life. The good news? With the right techniques, you can tackle most of them before they become permanent. At Unstained Cleaning Services, we’ve seen (and saved) it all — here’s your go-to stain removal guide for carpets, rugs, and upholstery.
“Blot, don’t rub — and always test a small hidden area first.” -Unstained
Act Fast – Time is Everything
The sooner you react, the better your chances of full removal. Blot (don’t rub!) the spill gently using a clean white cloth or paper towel to absorb as much as possible. Rubbing spreads the stain and pushes it deeper.
The Basics – What You’ll Need
Red Wine or Juice
☕ Coffee
Pet Urine
Blood
Grease and Oil
Important Cautions
Before you grab every bottle under the kitchen sink, pause. Using the wrong chemical can permanently set a stain or cause discoloration — especially on wool, silk, or synthetic blends.
What works for one material might ruin another. Not everything labeled “cleaner” is safe for carpets or rugs.
Avoid mixing products, and always test in a small hidden area first. If you’re unsure what caused the stain — or what your rug is made of — don’t risk it.
Call a professional. It’s safer, smarter, and often cheaper than replacing a damaged rug.
When to Call the Pros
Even with the best home efforts, some stains just won’t budge — and that’s okay.
Whether it’s a delicate wool rug, mystery stain, or a spot that’s already been made worse by DIY attempts — we’ve seen it all.
